Letter Fifty-Five from the Lovely Lady Lena
‘This week was’, to quote my dearest best friend Sister Hannah Woolley, ‘like the white roller coaster at Lagoon. Filled with ups and downs and I was ready to crack at any moment. And I saw a raccoon on a roof, which I have actually seen on the roof of the white roller coaster loading station.’ All of our appointments fell out, we found no new investigators, and we discovered at the worst of times, that our stomachs can’t handle African food force fed to us. We had a member pass out during a lesson, and we then got to escort (carry him and his walker on trains and buses and bike paths) home. We got caught tracting in a rain storm for an hour, and our investigator said he could tell that we’ve gained weight since he last saw us. (which was only 10 days ago, mind you.)
I could sit here and complain to you, but that wouldn’t really accomplish anything. And truth be told, I don’t have a lot to complain about. I have been living in G e r m a n y for a year. I serve in a wonderful ward filled with people who care about me. I get to be a part of the ‘angel factory’. I love this life.
It has been said that you are the architect of your own happiness. I am a firm believer of such words! We can not control all of life’s circumstances, but we can certainly control our outlook. In the end, this week was actually quite beautiful. (but hopefully, next week will be even better and no one will pass out on us. is that too much to ask for?!)
Thank you for all that you do! Go, allow yourself to be happy. I promise, it makes a mission (and life) so much more enjoyable.
