Letter Nine from the Lovely Lady Lena

Attention ladies and gents!

Today is my 2 month mission mark. I am one/ninth finished. Just kidding! I am staying here forever so it doesn’t really matter what today is. I am so glad that Sister Rasmussen and I are still living together and get to celebrate this day together! I gave her a rubix cube that has notes written on it everywhere but she has to solve it to read it. She gave me rain boots from the Tafel! And today we are making cake batter pancakes! It’s like a birthday party…but not really. Pretty much we just like any excuse to party.
Last week we went to Radebeul to see where Thomas S Monson dedicated East Germany for missionary work. We read the prayer he said and took some personal time to dedicate our missions. It was so wonderful to look out on East Germany and know that the Lord is hastening His work here. The people are so amazing, especially the older generation. They have gone through so much and when they recognize God was there for them… it’s just an amazing spirit to feel. I’m not sure if it was the spirit or the fact that I was wearing a flannel shirt in 30 degrees cel. weather, but I felt really warm there.
I also felt really warm as I walked around Dippoldiswalde on Saturday. Sister Degraw and I wanted to stop by a less active member and tract around a dorf (little village) for the day. We chose the hottest day. I wore black. Let’s just say, all the old people in their swimsuits gardening were giving me really weird looks. ELEVEN ELEVEN MAKE A WISH. The dorf was adorable though! There was this one house that was painted BRIGHT green. Like it burned my eyes. Naturally, I wanted to go and knock on their door! The lady answered and invited us inside (rare occurance) and started talking about these two mattresses. I offered to help her move them and she asked where our car was. I explained that we took a bus here but we can move the mattresses to wherever in the house she wanted them. She was very confused why we didn’t have a car. I then explained that we were missionaries and that we travel around to serve and talk about Jesus. We were promptly booted out. Turns out, she was expecting people to come and get her mattresses and she thought that we were them and that is why we were invited inside. Oh language barriers. Over all the dorf was pretty fun though! Mostly because I kept thinking ‘I’m walking around an old German village sharing the most important message. pinch me. pinch me. pinch me.’
I know I said I would talk about the mission crafts but I forgot the pictures. So I will postpone that post and instead leave you with an hilarious pun! Sister Rasmussen’s family sold her dog while she was on vacation. That’s rough or really, lack of ruff.
Bah ha hah. Send your pity laughs to Sister Helzer, Weisen Strasse 8, 01227 Dresden, Germany. Or other things than pity laughs. That is just an idea.
Bis Später Aligator!
