Well I survived. I survived my first awkward missionary birthday. Not only did I endure it, I actually enjoyed it! Sister Hansen took me to the Circus so I could have a little taste of home. (see a previous blog entry HERE about my carnival summer.) That was wonderful despite the horrific smells of Germans. Err, I mean German circus animals haha. Really though, my birthday was fabulous! I shared it with ALL OF GERMANY as they celebrated the West and East coming together. I also shared it with Hailey Devine (come on, who doesn’t stalk that couple?!). Oh and let’s not forget it was mean girls day, which meant I had to wear pink! People were so generous to me, except the post man who refused to deliver mail on a national holiday. Uggh! Jk, that just meant I got to celebrate my birthday the day after as well.
So are you sick about hearing about my birthday already? Let us talk about miracles. Monday we went finding in Schneeberg. A lady heard us speaking in English and stopped us to ask where she could buy lipstick. We transitioned from lipstick to the gospel and got her number. We felt empowered by that encounter and continued to find in that area. We saw little success though and prayerfully moved to a different area. There we talked to a nice old lady outside her garden and ended up giving her a Book of Mormon. (which is a great book, five stars! I recommend reading it if I were you!) We were so happy to talk to her that we said a prayer of gratitude before heading back to our auto. A little boy then asked us what we were doing and we started talking with him. His mother came up and we had a great walking and talking discussion. We found this family right after we said a prayer of gratitude about finding the garden lady. We felt like we were on cloud 9! The Lord’s work is simply amazing. He really does place people in our path, even if he makes the kids talk to us first.
Another miracle came from General Conference. I could write a post just on how wonderful that 2 day vacation was. General Conference is amazing. It is modern revelation. We had an investigator come to the first session and after President Uchtdorf’s talk she kept saying ‘that was written just for me.’ Frau G, you bet it was! Come. Join with us Frau G. We are meeting with her tomorrow, keep Frau G in your prayers that she will come, and join with us! Side note: after email time I am going to where President Uchtdorf grew up.
We also started serving at an old folk’s home. One of the old men can speak english and told me all sorts of random (and often inappropriate) jokes. He says them slow, with a thick accent, and sometimes I don’t even realize he is speaking english. But he is 92 so I will give him credit for trying!
I wish I had all the time in the world to spill my gratitude for all the birthday cards and emails I have received! I loved each and every single one of them! If I didn’t respond today, don’t feel bad, I will respond. Until then,
