Letter Thirty-Eight from the Lovely Lady Lena

Dun dun dun. The call came. My heart was torn out, thrown on the ground, and jumped on a few times. Sister Hansen is leaving little ol’ me for Halle. We knew our time would draw to an end, but I had no idea how fast 6 months could go! But only a short 7 or so months and we will be reunited back in the states. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though, I still have to tell you about our wonderful week.

It started by going to Christmas Town! Sure, that event was 2 months ago, but why not have a little bit of Christmas every month?! So we did. And it was splendid. And I tried to enjoy every single last moment I had with Sister Hansen. Haha, okay now this is just sending melodramatic. Maybe I should quit writing a blog and work on writing a soap opera. Actually, that’s probably not a bad idea. A mission soap opera! There would be so many great plot lines and twists and to be continues. Anyone have some name ideas? Maybe like Black Mountain. (translation of Schwarzenberg.) I think that sounds a little chilling if you read it in the right voice. ‘Next week on Black Mountain…’
We cut to the following scene on Black Mountain. Sister Hansen and I were carless and needed to go by some people in the neighboring town. We walked 2 km there, met with them, and walked back. On the way home I saw a sign pointing to Schwarzenberg. It looked like a short cut so we decided to take the road less traveled on. heh. Well turned out it was the longest shortcut I have ever taken! 6.4km later my feet were begging for a break. We walked through hills and valleys and climbed mountains and jumped over quick sand and only saw 3 people the whole time. We probably looked like death by the time we met the third person…on Black Mountain.
She was walking her dog so we stopped to talk about dogs. (I LOVE DOGS!) Pretty soon it turned into a gospel conversation. She told us that she met with missionaries 15 years ago and read the Book of Mormon but didn’t really understand it. She then gave us her address and told us to come by and that maybe her boyfriend would be interested as well. I was speechless. Partly because I had just walked up a mountain in a pencil skirt and couldn’t catch my breath, but also partly because this lady is so ready. She wants to hear the gospel! It is so wonderful to feel wanted isn’t it?! I can’t wait to go by her with my new companion.
Next time on Black Mountain, learn about how my friend landed up in a German hospital for a week, meet my new companion, and see what happens with the dog lady.
xoxo,
Sister Helzer
p.s. Congrats to my girl Torah Bright for winning Silver! Thank you Mama Helzer for the Olympic updates.
p.p.s. Count O told us that he reads in the Book of Mormon every day for 30 minutes and thinks about Jesus often. That was a huge testimony to me that the Book of Mormon really does bring us closer to our Savior. I know it’s true, I really do! No amount of exclamation points can express my strong testimony but I will certainly try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
