Welcome to Huntington Beach

This month marks two years since I embarked on the biggest adventure of my life …. so far. I say so  far because let’s face it, I’m only 21 and I have a lot of life in front of me. I have a gypsy heart and this summer it called me to CALIFORNIA. I’m currently sitting in my bedroom in Huntington Beach….wait let me rephrase that; I’m currently laying in my bed in the most awkward position on account of the terrible sunburn I received yesterday. #ombreskin.

Wait, so why am I in HB? I moved here right after finals and began my new job as a House Manager.

Now you are probably ripping your hair out screaming “WHAT THE HECK DOES A HOUSE MANAGER DO?” It’s simple: your mom’s job. I grocery shop, clean, cook, chauffeur, put kids in time out, the whole nine yards. The family has 5 kids ranging from 7 to 17 so you can imagine the task I have at hand. Oh and if we are Snapchat (alenahelzer) friends then you’ve seen they also have one giant dog who may or may not bite my head off one day. Despite the challenges (dog included), I actually quite enjoy my job. And we can just throw out that it is an awesome pre-req for Wifehood.

My gypsy heart is loving being in an area with so much to see and do, and so many wonderful people to talk to! On Saturday I was walking around Venice Beach and I heard a guy say something in German. I automatically started a conversation with him and asked if he needed any help. He had gotten a parking ticket but didn’t understand why. I explained to him that if the curb is painted red you can’t park there, and then I showed him how to pay the ticket. It felt so good to use my German! I think I was floating after that conversation; I was so happy. (I also reached for my pocket to give him a pass-along Mormon.org card just out of habit.)

blarg. I hate when I write something awesome and the page refreshes itself and deletes it all. I should know better by now!

I have a new respect for mothers everywhere. Going from zero to five in a week has aged me like 50 years. It has also inspired me with a long list of posts, that I will proudly regurgitate onto this blog. Yup, I’m mama birding my blog. With that lovely image stuck in your head, please enjoy these snapshots from my weekend.

Love,
Lena

There was a competition going on where you could kick soccer balls at a wall of balloons filled with paint. I skillfully managed to not hit a single balloon. I also managed to get 3 bags of mini oreos, so in the end I did score.

LEMONADE. Guys have you ever eaten here? It is a tad overpriced, I will admit, but it is so delicious!
